I would note that I have all of the Leverage material that I know to be available, including the two expansion books and the 10 smaller guides.

I wondered if anyone had any advice on how to manage this situation? Should I have an NPC Mastermind? A Hitter? What role is best sacrificed in this situation?

So each player can have a primary and secondary role - Hitter / Grifter for example. I would prefer that each player get to concentrate on a single character. One of my players is willing to play 2 characters, one is not. Hitter, Hacker, Grifter, Thief, and Mastermind. Regardless, the rulebook for the game is fantastic.

The typical team for Leverage is 5 PCs, each PC filling the primary roles of the game and show: The roleplaying game of Leverage is challenging I found it extremely difficult to GM because of the necessary tight pacing and (intentional) ambiguity of the rules, and it is hard to play because you have to think on your feet with the cleverness of both a screenwriter and a fictional thief. The problem is, I'm going to be running this game with only 2 players. It will be my first time running Leverage, but not my first time running a Cortex-Plus game as I've run some Marvel Heroic Roleplaying too. Check out for more RPG reviews.I'm preparing to run a game of Leverage. (I never review a game I haven’t played or run. This is the game to whet your appetite whilst waiting for Cortex Prime. There’s nothing fundamentally broken about Leverage, and many of my favourite Cortex features (the Roles, the Distinctions, the escalating actions) originate here. Cortex is designed to be modular, and taking those developments and reverse-engineering them to Leverage is easy. I find Leverage charming because every rule I don’t like is an opportunity filled in by later iterations of the system. More detail about how to plan a heist, both as a player and as a GM, would be useful. The game can absolutely be run this way, but the GM advice chapter doesn’t seem to realise it. In the show, “true” failure in anathema, with setbacks usually “part of the plan” that are withheld from the audience until the conclusion. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Hyper-competent PCs do not always fit well with something so random, where failure is an ever-present prospect. The game doesn’t always capture the tone of the show (flashbacks, a key feature of the programme, lack mechanical teeth compared to alternative ways of spending resources), but the tools it does provide, such as an “adventure” generator for a Mark and the complications they present, are a gem. The TV show Leverage takes five career criminals, each specialists in their field, and pits them against villains the law can’t touch the RPG takes those same five specialisations, and assigns each character a die rating in each. Leverage: The Roleplaying Game Cam Banks, Rob Donoghue, Clark Valen on. The Roles, in particularly, are devilishly evocative.

Its straightforward design goals are achieved with a streamlined character sheet – just three core traits, plus specialties, assets and SFX, to adopt Cortex Prime terminology. Leverage, one of the first Cortex Plus games, avoids this problem. Seven years later, Leverage still holds up.Īs a game system matures, tweaks to it can often overburden the mechanics with unnecessary complication. As 2017 ends, nostalgia moves me to re-examine where the seeds of Cortex Prime were first planted, and in a way, this blog too.

In role playing chat room, you can find many people acting and writing the story in real time. What Are Role Play Chat Rooms Role play chat is not like any other type of chat, it is unique. Margaret Weis haven’t produced new Leverage content for years, but the Cortex system is alive and kicking, with a new design studio at the helm, a successful Kickstarter, and a resourceful fan community ( including yours truly). So, feel free to imagine and make creative arts by acting and writing stories. The first mini-review I ever wrote, Smallville, was published a year after the game went out of print, because that’s how behind the curve I am.
